A Remarkably Relaxing Retreat at Hoar Cross Hall

7/1/2018 12:00:00 AM

After a long drive up the M1, I was greeted with a 17th Century brick arch to drive through and instantly felt like I was going back in time.  As I drove up the driveway, the building began to appear from behind the trees and my anticipation levels began to rise.

Upon walking through the entrance into a lovely well-lit atrium, my journey really began.  After checking in and getting my wristband, robes and towel, it was then I found out how much there is at Hoar Cross Hall Spa Hotel.

This is not just a hotel and spa. A driving range and archery pen are also housed in the grounds which spans 50 acres. You can rent bikes to cycle around the many paths or simply take a stroll at your own pace to view the wonderful countryside.

Plus you can use the well-equipped gym or the extensive list of gym classes on offer!  An Italian Water Garden is displayed on top of part of the building, and it is a lovely peaceful spot to sit down and take it all in.

Time for a treatment

After having a walk and getting my bearings, it was time for my treatment.  I was booked in for an Elemis Full Body Massage. My masseuse Rinnie took me to the treatment room and once there we went through the treatment and tested some oils. Even this was a relaxing experience in itself!

The next 55 minutes allowed my whole body to unwind and my mind to drift off peacefully into a fully relaxed state. The calming music, oils and care that the masseuse took in her work made this a remarkable massage.

Once finished, she took me back to the atrium and from there I went off to the wonderful Hugo’s for a 3-course lunch. A nice buffet selection of starters was laid out and once sat at my table, a menu for the main and dessert was brought over along with water. After a mixture of salad and meats, I had a lovely Roast Pork main with fresh vegetables and a delightfully light Lemon Posset.

Exploring Hoar Cross Hall Spa Facilities

From there my time was spent exploring the main water features of the spa, and the peaceful Sanctum. The excellent water facilities are a mix of therapeutic pools, an Aqua Massage area, Nordic Heat and Ice centre and a Detox Centre. Each of the latter 3 areas includes a journey to make the most of the facilities.

I spent time in the Nordic area which took me from a Sauna to a salt inhalation steam room, then a hot shower followed by an ice and cold shower, and then finished off with an aromatherapy room. A perfect way to refresh all of the body.  The Sanctum was also another highlight.

An area with hanging basket beds to snuggle up with a loved one in, or quiet calm rooms with beds to simply pop in the headphones and drift off.  There is also a snooze room if you really want to catch up on some well-needed rest! After taking a leisurely swim around the pool and a trip to the aqua massage area… and a final brave drop in the plunge pool, I went back and showered before making my way to check out.

Ready to face the world

Leaving completely relaxed and calm for the drive home, I felt like I truly had taken myself away from it all! Hoar Cross Hall Spa Hotel is home to not only incredible grounds, gardens and facilities, but the staff really do make it special as well.

My next plan is to come back for a longer stay and to take in more of the grounds and perhaps a little bit of golf and archery. It felt like a real retreat for adults, allowing you to relax for the entire time, or take in the more upbeat of activities including fully kitted out gym and studios for an extremely wide array of classes!  Whether it is a romantic retreat, a girly getaway, or simply a taking some “me-time”, Hoar Cross can really cater an incredible experience for you!
